Celebration of World Migratory Bird Day

World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) was initiated in 2006 and is a global awareness-raising campaign highlighting the need for the protection of migratory birds and their habitats. On the second weekend each May, people around the world take action and organize public events such as bird festivals, education programmes and bird watching excursions to celebrate World Migratory Bird Day and to help raise awareness around a specific theme.

In May 2011 Friends of Ramsar site in collaboration with the Wildlife Division of the Forestry Commission hosted over 150 (one hundred and fifty students and teachers), who are members of the Wetland Clubs from Schools within the catchments of the Sakumo Ramsar site to educational talk and bird watching as part of activities marking the World Migratory Bird’s Day, 2011 in Ghana.  The theme for the occasionwas “land use change from birds –eye view’’.
